Our History

Founded in 1985 by Monsignor Massimo Camisasca, the Fraternity was recognized as a Society of Apostolic Life in 1999 by Pope John Paul II.

At the beginning of the 80s, a group of priests asked Cardinal Ugo Poletti if they could found a priestly association in order to form young men for the missionary priesthood. On September 14, 1985, Monsignor Massimo Camisasca is elected Superior General of the new Association. It was the birth of the fraternity: 7 priests and 10 seminarians.

In 1989 the fraternity is recognized as a Society of Apostolic Life of Diocesan Right. The first young men preparing for the priesthood are ordained.

During the 1990s the first the of fraternity’s houses are founded in Italy and throughout the world. Houses with two, three, or four priests in which communion is lived in harmony with the spirit and the Rule of the fraternity.

On March 19, 1999 the Fraternity obtained pontifical recognition.

On september 29, 2012, Massimo Camisasca was appointed Bishop of Reggio Emilia – Guastalla by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI

On February 1, 2013, the General Assembly elected the new Superior General, Fr Paolo Sottopietra.
